Goals for year 2010
Professionalize the work performed by procurement

Increase the number of donors inscribed as
the result of our public campaigns, hoping to
inscribe two hundred thousand new donors per
year.
Double the number of transplants in comparison
to last year, and hopefully reach the number
of 600.
Our beginnings:
The current “Corporación
del Trasplante” is a private non profit institution
founded in 1990 as “Corporación Nacional
de Fomento del Trasplante”. Created to encourage
organ transplantation in Chile, it was recognized
by the “Ministery of Health, and nowadays
all the work they do related to tissue and organ
transplantation is highly appreciated.
Our institution is the result of an idea that came
from a conversation between MD Oscar Espinoza and
Mr. Patricio Fernández Irarrazabal, while
they were working at “Hospital del Salvador”.
Our first president was MD Jorge Kaplán,
the heart transplantation pioneer in Chile. And
MD Oscar Espinoza assumed as vice president.
Before this, there was nobody dedicated to organ
donation and procurement, it was just a complementary
activity assumed by the “Asociación
de Dializados de Chile” (Chilean Dialysis
Association)
Today, “Ministery of Health” (through
“FONASA” an state health insurance)
gives us part of our budget, which is needed to
pay the costs that our organ procurement system
involves.
