Donors and Transplant Rates
Comparative picture since 2001, as actual donors as transplants done, just considering those with cadaveric donor. Then rates are expressed in million per inhabitants (pmp), and were taken based in a global of 15 million of inhabitants in Chile, according with the information of INE ( Statistic National Institute) 2002.

According to internationals numbers, the actual donor rates must be settled in over 18- 20 donor pmp. For that reason, solid organ transplant rates, in relation with the size of our population, and with the pathologies existed, must grow between 4 to 10 times each one to really cover the necessities.

Item 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006
Actual Donor 8.4 7.7 9 8.9 8.2 10
Kidney Txs. 15.5 14 16.8 15.6 14.8 17.4

Latin American Reality
When Chile presents its national reality, there comes always one question: What happened in the other countries of our Latin America? How goes this matter in our neighborhoods?.
Facing the reality of latin american context, we can point Chile position’s is at 5th place at the ten top of the list; behind Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico ( date of 2004), and Uruguay, top of the list with 20,6 donors rate per million of inhabitants per year with a 19% of family refusal. The less family refusal is in Cuba (5.1%). Sadly, we do not know the results in this aspect ( family refusal) from the other countries, so is too complex to draw conclusions.
In top, we present Latin American map with its dates. We have omitted some countries with no Transplant Programs or with no information to Latin American Organization, to see more details :www.gpuntacana.org
